Always research road conditions, and if the hot springs are still open, before you hit the road. Even with all the great online sources, books are still a great thing to have, especially when you're on the road or hiking in the boonies!

6/01/2001 - I have done some research and found that there are Fales, Mono, Whitmore and Benton Hot Springs closest to Yosemite.

7/27/2001- Hello! We make a trip to Hot creek every year from the Tahoe area. It's a girls-only trip and it's medicine! We were wondering if you knew of any other good hot springs in the Mammoth area that would be idyllic for a group of about 7. What's the story on Little Hot Creek? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you,
Carrie, USA
2/15/2002- I vistited this hot spring in the summer of 1987 when I was finishing my geology degree. The solar showere were not working well with the afternoon thunderstorms so we enjoyed an evening dip in the hot spring. You can easily get comfotable with plenty of cool water from the creek to blend with the hot spring. A little crowded on summer evenings but worth it after a long day on the trail.

6/19/2002- I also checked out an undeveloped natural hot spring on my latest trip. I think it was a creek called Hot Creek and it was in the Inyo National Forrest Between Mono Lake and Mammoth Lake. All I can say is be careful there. It was very enjoyable but you can see big translucent pools of scalding water next to the creek. They've been fenced off to some extent and there are paved paths leading down to the creek with signs posted of the danger. The creek is very cold but as you work your way closer to the hot pools the creek warms up. It was really neat!

Hot Creek is now closed for swimming.
The road is open to check it out.
Main pool is very unstable and is geysering at times. Ranger rick has put up fences all over.
the spring is closed because no one is calling and protesting, I was at the spring in june of 2009 no geysers. One of the Rangers told me it's closed because I mught get hurt. I have been going to this spring since the 70's join me in working to get this open again. Call your congressman today.
