12/17/2002- I have being going to Calvary Chapel Bible College for over 2 years, where the Murrieta Hot Springs now resides. I have had the opportunity on many occasions to take a dip into the natural harvested hot spring Jacuzzis. I must say that the Bible College has done a great job with integrating the hot springs down a tiny streambed into several Jacuzzis. The Jacuzzi experience is quite different then a hot tub or spa. Since there are minerals that reside within the hot springs, the body fills rejuvenated after each visit. As soon as one steps out of the Jacuzzi, the body fills oily. After one dries off, there is a slight residue on the skin as if lotion has been applied.

The students and staff spend a great deal of time and energy with "daily" maintenance on all the Jacuzzis at the Bible College. All the students that live on campus put in eight hours per week with the upkeep of the Bible College, which include the following: landscaping, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, security, audio/visual recordings, teacher's assistances, library, construction, hair-cutting, and nursing. The students work together in making the Bible College a pleasurable and rewarding experience for the guests and themselves, which the campus bears living proof.

...the Murrieta Hot Springs are not open to the general public. The grounds of the Murrieta Hot Springs does reside on a college. Because of the hot springs history, there have been countless number of individuals who have come from countless number of miles away seeking the natural hot springs to restore health and infirmities, but the hot springs is no "fountain of youth." If the Jacuzzis were open to the general public, it would pose as a major problem for the student's studies. The Bible College is geared for students to get away from home and world life, to study in quiet, yet peaceful environment. If the hot springs were to reopen, there would be a constant bombarding of tourists from all over the world, hoping that the hot springs can cure whatever affliction or infirmity they might have. And can you imagine about parking! There is hardly enough room for the students, staff, and retreaters, which the parking is primarily built on a hill.

My personal experience in the Jacuzzis is quite exuberant, but I have found a similar experience when I took a shower at my friend's house, which the water was treated by a whole house water softener. After I turned off the water of the shower, I felt as if I still had soap all over my body. I quickly turned the water back on and "rinsed" off, but when I had turned off the water, it still felt as if I had a soapy oily surface, which went away when I dried off; after which my skin felt as if it had a nice coat of lotion on. My advice is, if someone wants to feel the similar experience of the Murrieta Hot Springs, get a house water softener for your shower. And if you have a spa or hot tub at home, treat the water with a water softener. I am quite confident that a similar experience will be enjoyed.

The facilities are open to retreaters during the summer and on weekends during the rest of the seasons. Retreaters come from many different churches and organizations from around the United States for conferences. If one really wanted to enjoy the Murrieta Hot Springs, he or she could sign up with a church or group planning on visiting the facilities in the future.

06/08/2003- Unfortunately, Murrieta Hot Springs is no longer public; and hasn't been for about eight years. I lived down the street from there at one time and it was a nice place. It is now privately owned by a conglomerate church and they now have that as their official conference center. I have considered joining the church just to have access to the hot springs! lol

This is outrageous! Here is a clear violation of separation of church and state. No doubt, some one has profitted from this sale to a church ie. the present owners and the city (or individuals of the city who made this illegal sale possible. Anyone interested in turning this property back over to the public for everyone's use future and present, please contact

ummm i think you don't understand the term of separation of church and state lol go study the term before you make a joke out of yourself!

oh and one more thing... before the church owned it, it was still a private spring as there was a hotel there before. calvary chapel just bought the hotel and made it into a retreat center. ahhhhh... the lack of tolerance from those who claim to be the pioneers of tolerance. but really, look up separation of church and state... bet you didn't know its not even mentioned once in our constitution or any of the amendments!

This is DeJa Vu. Bill Mayer in his last two shows has been ridiculing a young (and dumb) candidate for US Senate, Diane O'Donnel, who said the same thing the last commenter said. That separation of church and state isn't in the Constitution or the 10 amendments. She and the audience laughed but it was not with her but at her. It is indeed in the Amendments, the First. Apparently she and O'Donnel slept thru that part their education and therefore are "Ignorant". And so far as "Tolerance" is concerned I would prefer to use the word "Acceptance" But I'm sure she and her ilk would not even begin to understand that. Judging that I would not give these people the "Guardianship" or expect them to "Share" this "Treasure", it looks to be a colossal mistake to let this sale go unchallenged.

of course bill mayer!!! that makes sense...
the first amendment and the separation of church and state are 2 VERY different things... and if anything it protects the church. what you and the other person referred to was the language that Jefferson used in a letter he wrote to the committee of the Danbury Baptist Association ( http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html ).
it looks like somebody got the revised version of the history books... Oops!

The first amendment does indeed cover "the Separation of Church and State". Where else is this provided? The Bill of Rights was written to protect religious groups as well as the irreligious. But since the document is short and doesn't cover everything in text, The Supreme Court has from time to time filled in the gaps. I know this is hard for you to understand. You, no doubt read with a very narrow view as many do who read the bible. So I would not rely on a church to be fair and open to everyone. I would certainly not expect a church to handle a public asset with the same detachment of a private enterprise. Rod Thompson, director of Calvary Chapelpel has made it very clear that Murrieta Hot Springs is closed and the name "Murrieta" will be dropped. He further makes it known that they will not share this treasure with anyone outside their sect. He refers to others as heathens and damdable. He quotes the scripture of Mathew (Chapter 16) something about the necessity to take more ground from the enemy inorder to expand the Kingdom of God. There are many Hot Springs in California still open and preserved. This did not happen by accident. Mabe someone could throw some light on the subject. There must be some excutive order or like which protects them.

as per the editor, i'm dropping this "back-and-forth" clearly it is a HUGE waste of time to speak with some one who is so ignorant and lives by a double standard and ha no knowledge of the Christian religion (not a sect). Hope you find other springs to go to or better yet... lead by example and be yourself a bit more open minded and try to attend one of the events there... i'm sure will have a different perspective if anything. peace!

Thank you, that exactly what i was thinking! Now lets take it back!!!! So much history is just sitting there for no one to see, ive lived here for 22years befor they even had control of it. I think that they should have made the hotsprings seprate from the church, so that people could still enjoi it. I 1925 it was one the biggest and knowwn resorts in all of america, and now what? You have to apart of some CULT just to see history, its pretty lame if you ask me or anybuddy els that not appart of your church! I made a google account just so i could right how selfesh you people are!

Im gunna walk right thru your gates, we shouldent have to belive in your cult to see history, you guys are the ignorint and selfish people, thats what you dont understand. It was there long befor you! Go make a church on in the middle of no where if you want to be alone and peacfull, dont take over a huge attraction and just tell everybuddy there not welcome. If i had power and money in this city, the first thing i would do is attempt to take back the springs for the public, i would completly destroy all that bullshit you guys have built around it. And make into present day 1925 agian. Damn CULT!

Poor editor.. your hot spring guide turned into ignorant babble. this property was SOLD! it was bought by a church but no matter who bought it, it is private property. its been told that it was dilapidated when sold because nobody cared when you crazies were sneaking in for free. welcome to the modern age where people buy property! Don't get mad at a church, or any other business transaction in our modern world. Disneyland isn't free anymore either people! Sorry about you E tickets... too funny.

This has to be one of the most ignorant and hilarious things ever said:

I have been to Murrieta Hot springs many times since the 70's, before Calvery bought it and closed it to the general public. When I found out from a friend that they rented rooms for retreats, fellowship etc for the general public I jumped at the chance to hit the Hots once again.. Wow !!! Just Wow, what they did to the place, it's a work of art. Instead of having a few baths in a locker room setting, boys on one side, girls on another (I do miss the Tule root mud bath but oh well) but this is much better. They took a problem and turned it into an asset, the hot water from thousands of feet below springs in all the wrong places, parking lots etc. so they pump the 160-degree water out of the ground and turned it into a river that leads to a pond for ducks and other wildlife, and to use to water the landscape. Along the way the mineral water is fed into wading ponds or outside baths among creative rock work beautiful mature palms and waterfalls feeding multiple baths of various temperatures from plenty hot, (105 to 108) for hardcore bathers like me, to warm water pools for the ladies to sit and talk. Anonymous said...? Who cares? This is not the place for your tired diatribe and political B.S. Yeah you stay home... Please!!!
